Privacy Policy for Synapse

Last updated: 19/06/2026

1. What Synapse is and who we are

Synapse is a study and memorisation app operated by Enzo Pereira. It helps users learn text by splitting paragraphs, practising recall, recording spoken attempts, and tracking progress. This policy explains what information Synapse collects and how it is used.

For questions about this policy, contact enzopereira.work@gmail.com.

2. Account information

When you use Synapse, we may collect information such as your email address, user ID, login provider, and email verification status. This is used to create and manage your account, protect saved study data, and enable premium access where applicable.

Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication.

3. Study data we store

We may store study content you add or create, including:

This data powers core study features, restores saved work, tracks progress, and lets you continue where you left off.

4. Audio recordings

When you use audio recording features, recordings are mainly stored locally on your device (for example, in browser or app storage such as IndexedDB). We do not intentionally upload or store your recordings in our cloud database unless a later feature clearly states that we do.

5. Photo text scan

If you use this feature, you can upload an image so text can be recognised for study. Images are used for text extraction and the extracted text may be added to the app for editing. We do not intentionally store uploaded images permanently in our cloud database.

6. Usage and technical data

We may collect app activity, feature usage, login activity, performance information, crash details, and general analytics data. This helps us improve the app, fix issues, and keep things reliable.

Analytics may be processed by Firebase Analytics or related services.

7. Payments

For premium features, payments may be processed by third parties such as Stripe (web) or Google Play Billing (Android). We do not store full payment card details.

We may store subscription-related details, for example whether a subscription is active, subscription provider, status, renewal or expiry, and relevant identifiers to manage access.

8. How we use your information

We use this information to:

We do not sell users' personal information.

9. Third-party services

Synapse uses third-party services, including Firebase, Stripe, Google Play Billing, and browser-based tools used for recording, storage, speech, or text recognition. Those providers may process data according to their own privacy policies.

10. Local device storage

Some information is stored on your device via localStorage, IndexedDB, or similar storage, including progress and preferences. Clearing browser data, app storage, or uninstalling may delete that local data.

11. Security

We use secure HTTPS, Firebase Authentication, database security rules, and access controls. No online service is 100% secure, but we keep data collection limited to what is needed for the app.

12. Retention and deletion

We keep data as long as needed to run the app, maintain accounts, support progress data, provide premium access, comply with legal requirements, and handle technical or security issues.

You may request account or data deletion by emailing enzopereira.work@gmail.com.

13. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or request a copy of your personal data. You may also withdraw consent where consent is used. Request these rights through enzopereira.work@gmail.com.

14. Children

Synapse may be used by students. If you are under the age required by law for account control and data consent, use Synapse with a parent or guardian.

15. Updates

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make changes, we update the date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
